Grace

First what is Grace?, Many definition of grace are out there, let me share some with you.

Grace as a virtue coming from God.

Grace as unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification.

From this two definitions, i’d form my definition of Grace as “Unmerited Favor from God”.

Why is it unmerited? We don’t deserve it, why don’t we? Because of Sin, from the time of Adam. Taking a look back, I feel Grace existed way back since the days of Abraham, but it was not something you come by easily come by, but then again, it was merited so we can’t call it Grace.

Romans 5:19–21 KJV

[19] For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. [20] Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: [21] That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:14 KJV

[14] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

From the above scriptures, we can see what Grace entails. Personally Romans is one of my Favorite Books of the Bible, cause it preaches a lot about Love and Grace. Before i move on, I believe everyone has grasped the concept of Grace, i’m sure all do, but just for clearer understanding.

Why his Grace?

John 3:16 KJV

[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The above verse says a lot about Grace. God gave us his Grace, because of his love for us. Pre-Grace, we were under the Law, The law was the guideline to salvation. But lets look at after Jesus came

John 1:17 KJV

[17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Again;

Galatians 2:16 KJV

[16] Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified

God Grace for us, spuns out his love for us, irrespective of our ways. Can we recall “Unmerited Favor”, All we have to do is believe in the Son of God through which Grace came.

1 Corinthians 15:56–57 KJV

[56] The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. [57] But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Understanding the Grace

It’s easy to say, the Grace of God is sufficient of my life and act recklessly. It’s also easy to say, the Law has become irrelevant because of Grace. These understandings are wrong, even the bible says:

Galatians 2:17,21 KJV

[17] But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. [21] I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

We as Christians, should misuse the Grace of God in our lives. Doing that defeats it’s purpose in our life, and to clear a misconception, Yes Grace trumps the law but not anywhere has it been expressly stated we should not obey the law. The Law is meant to be obeyed, only that it does not guarantee Salvation. Salvation is guaranteed through Jesus only, not by law, our works. We can read up Galatians 2:16b and also;

Romans 9:16 KJV

[16] So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

Again;

Titus 3:5–7 KJV

[5] Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; [6] Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; [7] That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Say a Prayer with me “May God’s Grace continue to be Sufficient over Your/My Life”. Amen.

Our Understanding of the Grace should be in our faith in Christ. Accepting Jesus as our personal Savior, and with him, we can do all things.

Ephesians 2:8 KJV

[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Grace: The Gift of God

Ephesians 2:4–7,10 KJV

[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, [5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) [6] And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: [7] That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV

[8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things , may abound to every good work

I believe the passage above is self explanatory. It reveals what blessings come with the Grace of God. We should thank God everyday for being alive, that’s his Grace (Romans 9:16) right there. It’s a. prayer I say every morning when I wake up. In 2015, i had a ghastly accident, would have loved to share the story but the most important thing is all God’s Grace kept me and i came out unscathed. Today i’m doing very well, but the car hasn’t recovered since then. Imagine if it was the other way round? .. Thank God for life!.

Take Home

  • Don’t Abuse God’s Grace
  • Everyone has different levels of Grace
  • Man is not saved by his works, but by God’s Grace

I would like to end this session with this bible passage;

Revelation 22:21 KJV

[21] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
