Education Then Vs Now
Everytime i try to make comparisons with my generation and that of my dads in times of quality and value of education, i always notice the latter is better than the former. And why is it like that, their generation failed us. This may be from my point of view, but having look at it from some certain angles I think you would agree with me.
The value for education has hit the steep these days compared to our parents time when they were eager for education. Most of them, were all about moving to the next level, because it meant greater career growth. They would struggle no matter what to acquire various degrees, and you know why? the generation before them created that platform for them.
Let us look at everyone single person in power (even the ones not in power), go through their CV and see lots of academic qualifications and rich experiences. The question is why can’t they create such environment for us the younger ones, since they benefited from it as well. It is quite surprising that someone who has the exposure, is willing to do nothing with such. Various scholarships in their time, most people only struggled to transport themselves out of the country and the rest is taken care of. They had so much belief in education, there was value to it. An era where as a SSCE holder, you are guaranteed a job. How much more a BSc or MSc holder?, and let’s not divert too far and mention PHd.
Arguements are could it be the world is changing, that is why there is less value for education. Could it also be that Corruption is what is reducing value?, Education is the best legacy so they said, but that looks far from it now. I believe Education is diminishing drastically, an average youth right now will pick money over education, and i am sure it was the other way round. Then, they were gunning for books, don't get me wrong and think i am saying money is not important, but i think they failed in keeping the cycle and allowing it to divert, having tapped from it.
How many times was there strike in their time?, what are the conditions of these schools now?, Maintenance structure, what kind of teachers are being employed, are the staff paid well or even motivated well enough to do their jobs?, what is the cost of education?. The list is endless, and sure adds to the decline in education value, why can’t they give back?. Safe to say they can’t keep up, and that is the beginning of their failure for me.
What is the point going through all the years of studying, coming out jobless for years? Or am i really studying to know it or just a means to an end. I don’t know if you get my drift, but i am for fact that why couldn’t they keep the culture and allow it degrade?, cause same enabling environment made them who they are.
